Gorgeous singletrack amongst pinon pines and the Mogollon Mountains with fantastic views and fantastic downhill runs.
Called the "Berg Trail" by Silver City locals in honor of Gary Berg who pioneered the extensive trail system around Gomez Peak, the Picnic Loop beginning at the Little Walnut Creek picnic area is a great way to be introduced to the incredible mountain biking trails to be found in the area.
Beginning at the picnic area, you can follow the trail in either a clockwise or counter-clockwise manner, though going counter-clockwise allows for some fantastic downhill back to the picnic area.
The trail also intersects with the Continental Divide Trail via the CDT connector, opening up virtually endless larger loops and trails that are being built, maintained, and improved upon almost daily. Be sure to stop by the Silver City Visitors Center and Gila Hike & Bike for the latest trail beta.
