Climb the fantastic conglomerate rocks in the otherworldy top tier of Montserrat mountain with iconic views of an ancient monastery.

The famous Montserrat mountain has it all.  With climbs varying from easy single pitch trad routes to big sport multi pitches, Montserrat could keep a climber entertained for a very long time. Upon dry, barren landscape is a towering, large, and beautiful mountain with endless rock formations. While any crag in Montserrat is beautiful, the Gorros are popular because of their noticeable spire-like appearance on the highest tier of Montserrat. Climbing the Gorros is otherworldly. Multi pitching them gives you great views of not only the beautiful landscapes of the mountain but also of the huge, ancient Monastery below you and other old ruins.

The climbing book you'll need for multi pitches in the Gorros is called Montserrat Carasur Vias Largas. There is also on online guidebook here but it's not completely thorough and it's also in Spanish.

From Monestir de Montserrat, the small town just north of the mountain, take the windy highway up. You'll have got pay for parking (€6). From the parking lot walk to the monastery and go ahead and admire the old building that's become super touristy. Keep following the road around the left side of the monastery and you will come across some stone steps directly in front of you ending at a religious statue. Cross the bridge and walk up the stairs up for half an hour where you'll see some signs for Sant Joan funicular. Follow those signs for another 15-20 minutes. When this trail ends at the base of one of the Gorros, Gorro Marinera, head up the climbers trail on the left side of the rock until you reach the paved walkway for the people coming from the funicular. Go right here and you'll walk along the four Gorros.
