Night Shoot at Arch Rock
Riverside County, California
Description
Added by Juan Moreno
The thrill of hiking at night in this crazy landscape. An astrophotographer's paradise for shooting the Milky Way. The abundance of stars and lack of light make this trail unbelievable.
If you're setting up camp, be sure to check out White Tank Campground, which is home to one of the most epic rock formations. The Arch is located here. It's only about 1/2 round trip of walking to this spot. Geology Tour Road offers some flat wide open views of Joshua Trees in all directions. If you're up for it, Hall of Horrors has a whole new meaning at night. Its literally a hall between 2 giant rock formations. If you don't mind Wildlife, you may see some at night. Keep a sharp eye and watch where you step or place your hands. Watch out for snakes during warmer weather.

Visited for the full moon on February 22, 2016. Drive from Palm Springs was about one hour and fifteen minutes. If you want to get the best sunset shot through the arch I would recommend getting there early. The arch was already crowded with about six photographers with all their gear set up in the best locations. Got some great evening shots under the full moon.

Looking forward to heading out to Joshua Tree in April. This is great, thanks.
Yes, this is a great spot, and easy to walk to even if you arrive after dark. Here's my night shot from here: http://gallery.tracinglight.com/featured/ha5d6606 The best way to do this is get a campsite at White Tank and spend the entire night. Then you can come back at sunrise and get a shot like this of the sun coming through the arch: http://gallery.tracinglight.com/featured/h2cda9ff8
