Paddle Board (SUP) Napili Bay, Maui

Lahaina, Hawaii

Description

Added by Brynn Schmidt

This is one of the best places on the west side of Maui to stand up paddleboard. Incredible views, nearby rentals, calm ocean waters and restaurants provide the perfect setting.

This is an awesome place to stand up paddle - whether you are an experienced paddleboarder or a beginner. The bay is generally calm and protected and easy to board in. Beginners can stay closer to shore and feel comfortable in the calm, clear water. More advanced boarders have the option of going out further and paddling to the bays on each side of Napili as well. It is a perfect summer activity with amazing views of the surrounding area and Molokai island (which is about 8 miles away and in the background of these photos). While the water is often calm, winter swells as well as storms can roll through, so always check the forecast.

You can bring your own board or rent a board right on the bay in Napili Village at either 808 Boards or Snorkel Bob's. Full day rentals are between $40-45 (which is honestly a great deal compared to many other areas in the country).

Napili Bay is a gorgeous, turquoise-color bay on the west side of Maui. It is one beach over from Kapalua and about 10 minutes north of Kaanapali. While this is a quieter area without the crowds that these other two locations generally have, there isn't a lot of parking. If you are not staying on the bay, it is a good idea to arrive early in the morning for parking. If you cannot find parking around Napili Bay, you can try the lots above the bay at Kapalua Beach.

Napili Bay is a select spot because the crowds in the water are nowhere near the crowds at other beaches on Maui. This makes it a lot easier to paddle out and to avoid swimmers and snorkelers further out in the bay. You can even spot sea turtles right from your board.

If you are visiting the area, throw in some snorkel gear as well as Napili Bay has a lot of sea turtles and other sea life. You can also walk from the bay straight over to Kapalua for another great snorkeling beach.
