Paddle Lake Martin
Breaux Bridge, Louisiana
Description
Added by Gabriella Lorusso
Paddle one of Louisiana's finest swamps and wildlife preserves and see some native wildlife, including herons, egrets, ibis, bullfrogs, snakes, alligators, and even some bald eagles. Catch a sunset disappear behind cypress and water tupelo trees while paddling for an unforgettable view.
There's a boat launch for small boats, canoes, kayaks, and stand up paddle boards. Plenty of fishing from the banks or off a boat. Go at dusk for an unforgettable sunset from the water. If you paddle enough you may even be able to find a rope swing, or a rope ladder that offers an amazing aerial view.

Reviews
Beautiful Cypress trees, turtles, and variety of birds. I saw a couple small alligators sunbathing before the rain. It was windy, so we stayed mostly around the edge of the lake. Going again soon to try the trail!

Lake Martin is a perfect swamp for a quiet paddle in the bayous. I went in with a French immersion group associated with the Atchafalaya National Heritage Aera and they were great guides. The lake is very quiet and if you keep your eyes open, you will most likely see many birds and alligator floating around. Lake Martin is a must when daytripping around Lafayette.
