Description
Added by Kelly Park
This pristine alpine lake is the largest natural lake in the Dolomites. It offers gorgeous mountain views and emerald waters which are best experienced on a boat in the middle lake.
This beautiful alpine lake is often compared to the famous Lake Louise in Alberta, Canada and is an absolute must if you are in the Dolomites region. Lago di Braies is the largest natural lake in the Dolomites and depending on the light, its crystal clear waters can be seen in shades of blue, green, turquoise, and emerald.
Park at the designated parking lot (5-6 euro per car) and walk across the road passed Hotel Pragser Wildsee. If you have your own kayak or paddle board take the trail left about half a mile and there is a small beach where you can launch your boat.
If you want to rent a boat, take a left after the hotel up to the boathouse. Rentals are 12 euro for 30 mins and 18 euro for an hour. These classic wooden rowboats are beautiful and the perfect photo op. There's no feeling quite like sitting in the middle of the serene lake surrounded by the looming mountains.
After your boat ride, grab a coffee or beer at one of the cafes near the hotel and pick up a souvenir.

Reviews
Despite the huge crowds, you still can't come to the Dolomites and not visit Lago di Braies. Make sure to arrive early to avoid the largest crowds. Taking out a boat on the lake is a great way to get away from other people and enjoy floating around on the lake surrounded by towering mountains all around you.
