Photograph Fitz Roy and Cerro Torre from Route 40
El Chalten, Argentina
Description
Added by Christin Healey
Iconic views of the mountains that Patagonia is most famous for. If the weather cooperates, this is one of those drives that leaves you dreaming about adventure all day long.
From El Calafate, the town of El Chalten is about 2 1/2 - 3 hours away. The entire drive is incredibly scenic as you will have views of Lake Argentina Viedma to start with, and as you get closer to the town, Fitz Roy and Cerro Torre get closer with each passing kilometer. There is also one place to stop with food and restrooms along the way - don't miss La Leona and their incredible empanadas for the ultimate Argentinian road trip.
There are two official places to park right before you get into El Chalten, and these are great places to get one of the iconic road shots, but don't be shy about pulling over to the side whenever the urge strikes for a little variety - just a warning it may take a bit longer than the suggested driving time above :)
As always when shooting near the road, watch out for those cars!

Reviews
The view of the Fitz Roy range from the road is one of the best places to photograph this incredible mountain range.

This drive is a great drive in Argentina since you get to stare at Fitz Roy the whole way from Ruta 40. If you continue into El Chaltén (where else would you go?) a great place to stop for a bite to eat is Patagonicus. This restaurant and inn has tons of photos from the regions history and amazing food/good beer.
