Explore an incredible historic mill sitting on a waterfall in Babcock State Park. If you head there in the fall, take in the blazing colors.

Hidden deep in the Appalachian Mountains near the New River Gorge sits an extremely photogenic grist mill. A recreation of the original mills that dotted West Virginia, Glade Creek Grist Mill was completed in 1976 at Babcock SP. Built fully operational from the parts of 3 other WV mills, it was placed near the site of the former Cooper's Mill.

Fall is the ideal time for photographing the park, but spring and early summer will have better water flow. The best spot for photographing the mill is slightly downstream from the waterfall at a small pool in the creek. The pool of water creates a beautiful reflection of the mill and surrounding fall colors.

The mill also produces freshly ground cornmeal available for purchase depending on the season and stream conditions. Make sure to explore the rest of the park and the deep gorge formed by Glade Creek.

Babcock state park definitely worth visiting ! The mill, the lake, the trails

You have probably seen photos and it is well worth the stop to see for yourself and snap some shots and get your own take on the mill. It does draw in the people, so be prepared for some crowds.

Came here from the DC area and it was worth the hours behind the wheel. It doesn't disappoint and made for an iconic image of autumn.

Just go... The Glade Creek Grist Mill is extremely photogenic. I got to check it out late May for the first time early in the morning. The soft morning light, green foliage, and pink mountain flowers make this intimate location a must-see spot. I just wanted to sit there the whole day.

This mill is simply breathtaking and worth a side trip to get here. There are many angles to photograph the mill from, but as the adventure states, downstream below the waterfall is probably the best angle. If you take a look inside Babcock's visitor center by the mill, there are some neat wooden replicas of the mill that are worth taking a gander at.

A beautiful place to visit and photograph any season in WV. In the spring the state's flower, rhododendron provide a colorful background as well as vibrant fall foliage in WV and frozen magnificence in the winter! ❤️❤️

Beautiful drive up the new river to this little gem of a park. I went in February after a fresh six inches had dropped. The dog and I found a lot of nice trails, scenic overlooks and who could forget the grist mill itself!
