Short 0.5 mile hike from the campground. Two small pools that fit 8-10 people. Water temp between 104-110. Camp in the valley afterward.

Rain filled the air and fog hung low. It was to dreary to do much, but the idea of soaking in a natural warm springs beneath the peaks of the Tobacco Root mountains was too tempting to stay in side.

Potosi Hot Springs is about 25 minutes out of the town of Pony, MT. It’s one of my favorite places to be. Once entering the valley, time slows down. Follow the meandering dirt road until the Potosi campgrounds. Here there is an abundance of camping sites, a perfect place for a weekend or even a one-night retreat.

Getting to the hot springs is part of what I like best about it. After the drive there’s a short hike, starting in a dense wood trail that opens up to a field scattered with granite boulders. About a half mile from the parking lot you will be able to rest, in the Potosi hot spring. Although the surrounding area is quite muddy the actual pool is quite clean.

After a soak or possible before, there are also numerous hikes in the area. Bell Lake, home of the Bell Lake Yurt, a guide company for skiing these wondrous peaks in the winter, is a great six mile round trip hike. Instead of splitting left from the dirt road towards the Potosi campgrounds, continue on the dirt road towards the mountains. Signs will lead you to the hikes. Along the way there is camping areas along the boulders and river.

Potosi Hotsprings is a well known area, expect the campgrounds to be active and to share the spot with others. We got lucky both times we went and only shared the springs for a brief time as we got in and they got out. It's an easy 1 mile hike to the springs. Please, please do not bring glass to the site and pack out everything you pack in! The campground is well kept and cozy. I reccomend you opt for the further sites, you'll find yourself away from others and sleeping close to a small stream. The road to the springs is full of potholes, tight corners, and large rocks. Take is slow and maybe leave the Prius at home for this one :)

The drive out there was pretty long, dirt road was full of potholes and the hot springs were warm. MAYBE Bath water temperature. One of our friends said she had a snake come out of the water while she was soaking. It's not hot enough to keep animals out. I wouldn't do it again but it was ok 3 stars worth.

Have been around this area a handful of times, and have never made it to the actual hot springs until recently. Not a far hike and very easy/flat. The water was not very hot would consider it more of a "warm" spring. It is warm enough to soak for an extended period of time, however.

The hot springs themselves were not as hot as you would think for hot springs. Around the 85-90˚F range. That being said, the hot springs were still great to adventure to. They are very secluded and the views are phenomenal.
