Review: Hibear All-Day Adventure Flask

You know those cherished items that go everywhere with you? The water bottle full of dents and stickers that traveled around the world with you. The well-loved Rainbow sandals that did the same. The ring you purchased during a pivotal time of your life that rarely leaves your finger. Your totems. That’s Hibear.

Named after a beloved hat, a totem of a time of founder Mark Tsigounis’s life, Truckee, California based Hibear strives to be that “something” you carry with you anywhere and everywhere. Craving a change of pace in his life, Mark embarked on thru-hiking the Appalachian Trail. A few months later and a with a renewed stoke on life, Mark departed the trail and found a hat with a bear waving on it. ("Hi" bear...get it? wink...wink...) That hat symbolized his fresh start, his new beginning, his new energy, stoked to enter the non-thru-hiking world again. The hat went everywhere with him….until it flew off his head a few years later while on a boat in South America. That’s when Mark realized how much of a totem his hat had become. 

Hibear is not a hat that you’ll wear every day. It’s not a pair of Rainbows that have more mileage on them than your ultramarathon running shoes. It’s an insulated bottle that can do just about everything, and do it well. "The Swiss Army Knife of insulated bottles." 

Like most insulated bottles in the market, Hibear keeps hot water hot and cold water cold well. However, similar to my beloved Purist Collective bottles, Hibear differentiates itself by coating the entire interior of their bottles with silicon dioxide, a glass-like compound. So no more coffee-flavored-water. Go from water, to coffee, to tequila, to infused water (yup), to soup, to bourbon, and back to water, with no lingering aftertaste. Clean flavor, for whatever you’re consuming. 

Here’s what else it does:

The All-Day Adventure Flask has a silicon cup that you can slide off the bottom of the bottle. Use it for a dog bowl, a coffee (or cocktail) cup, or even use it as a measuring cup. 

Unscrew the top, and drink wherever you have inside as you would a regular water bottle. Remove the next layer down of the “lid” and that’s where you’ll get into the fun stuff. 

Pull out the cocktail strainer to get to the nuts and bolts of the bottle. You’ll find a decent sized strainer, which is excellent for cold brew and tea. Throw some lemon, or raspberries, or cucumber in there and you’ve got infused water. (And don’t worry, cold brew coffee nerds, the stainless steel filter is super fine, so you don’t have to worry about having to brush your teeth to remove grounds after drinking your coffee. This bottle really is excellent for cold brew.) 

The metal thermal core doubles as a cooling mechanism and a muddler. Throw it in the freezer for an hour, and it’ll help keep wherever drink you want cold for hours. Or unscrew it from the strainer when you’re making cocktails and use it as a fantastic muddler. 

To make pour over coffee, turn the top of the bottle upside-down and screw it into the strainer on top of the filter. Put a v60 paper filter into the now upside-down lid, add your grounds, and pour away. 

Finally, let’s not forget about cocktails. Throw your ingredients and ice into the bottle, cap with the strainer, and then tighten the lid. (The removable silicon cup doubles as a measuring cup, so you can get as crafty as you like!) Once everything is closed, shake it like you mean it. Then remove the lid, keep the cocktail strainer in there, and divvy up your cocktail among your friends. And as mentioned earlier, go crazy with your cocktails by using the muddler. Your friends will be impressed.
