Ryten Mountain has all the best and beautiful things that Lofoten Islands in Norway has to offer in an afternoon. You will climb up Ryten Mountain to views of Kvalvika Beach, surrounding peaks, and the gorgeous fjords all around you.

Important: There is no "official" trailhead for this hike, but follow these directions and you will have no problem at all:

Take the E10 towards the village of Fredvang and cross the two bridges.

Direct Route:  After crossing the two bridges, follow the sign posts towards ‘Yttersand.’  You will pass the turnoff towards Fredvang, keep going straight, but now keep track of the distance; the parking area will be in 850 meters from this point.  Follow the road past the ‘Frankenstein’ barn as it turns towards the left.  After another 500 meters, look for the white house with a 2 car garage on the left side of the road.  Immediately after the house, you will see a tourist info sign and a small grassy area to park.  Park here.

50 meters from the parking area, in the direction of Yttersand, you will see a gravel road/driveway on the left side.  Walk past the red house and continue towards the mountain.  Stay on the right side of the peak as the trail makes its way south towards the pass at the back of the valley.

After making the first climb up to the ridge, the trail turns west, past a small lake as it gains elevation towards the Fredvanghytte.  Pass the hut while keeping the mountain ahead of you.  In a few hundred more meters you’ll see a lake off to the left.  Keep to the trail as it heads up the mountain.  You’ll find the more spectacular views by taking the ridge route off to the left, but be careful as the cliffs are steep and exposed.  A cairn marks the summit.

This hike is absolutely gorgeous and a must-do if you are in the area. It's also one of the few hikes in Lofoten that is not too steep. It should take you about 3-5 hours with lots of stops for photos :)
