These amazing sandhills are an unexpected surprise in Monahans, Texas. If you are looking for an out of the ordinary adventure in the middle of Texas, look no further.

The Monahans Sandhills are a surprise. They aren't as big as Great Sand Dunes National Park, but they are still fun for an afternoon or weekend adventure.  The State Park entrance fee is $4 per adult daily. There are sand toboggan/ disks rentals at the park's headquarters. If you are looking to stay over night, the park offers campsites that have flush toilets and showers. There are also watering stations to rinse off once you are finished playing in the sand dunes.

If you plan on going sand surfing avoid the mid day heat or wet sand. You will have the most fun on dry cool sand, so mornings and evenings would be best. Hot sand or wet sand doesn't ride well. If you are visiting in the summer plan accordingly for the heat. The sand becomes extremely hot!

There are endless sandhills to climb, jump, or surf down. Pick a few and have fun!

Reviews

This isn’t what I expected out in the middle of nowhere! Surfing the dunes is fun, but the climbs up are a little rough. We visited in the heat of summer, but I can imagine in milder temps it is very enjoyable.

Fun west Texas outing. Best time to go is after it rains because the discs seem to slide a bit faster, and you can build sand castles!
