Scenic Drive through Sequoyah State Park

Only about a 50 minute drive away from Tulsa, Sequoyah State Park has a lot of scenery to offer for any outdoor photographer. During the winter season, it is especially beautiful and serene, as there are less visitors and campers and the area is still lush in color with the evergreen trees. Along the short 3.5 mile drive from the entrance to the end of the park, there are about 7 walking trails that are all 2.5 miles in length or less that you can access. Throughout the the park you are able to capture the various forests of evergreen, oak, and hickory trees. There is also Paradise Cove and the shoreline of Fort Gibson Lake which are both quite tranquil to photograph when the temperatures dip below freezing. The group camp area is right at the entrance at the park is also very unique to photograph with all its old A-frame style cabins. The cabins can be reserved individually for non-groups during the winter, which make them a great place to stay the night while you are at the park photographing and exploring. Lastly, there is also the Sequoyah Stables, where you might capture a glimpse of some of the beautiful horses that are there for riding on the Bridle Trail during the warmer seasons.

To get to Sequoyah State Park from the Tulsa area, head east on Highway 51. Continue onto Highway 351, before taking exit 13 to Wagoner. Take a left onto Highway 51 East until you pass through the main street of Wagoner (be mindful of the slower speed limit!). Take a right at McQuarrie Avenue and continue on until you reach the fork where the road splits into Highway 51 East and Highway 16 West. Veer left onto Highway 51 east, and continue on for about 7 miles where you will go across Fort Gibson Lake. After that you will see the entrance to Sequoyah State Park on your right.
