Scuba Dive at Mike's Beach Resort

Located in Washington State on the west shore of the Hood Canal, Mike's Beach Resort is a unique family run establishment offering waterfront cabins and rooms. Perfectly placed between the popular shore dives to the south like Octopus Hole, and Jorsted Creek, and the dynamic boat dives to the north such as The Pinnacle and Pulali Point, Mike's can be the ideal basecamp for a full array of diving. 

MIke's Beach Resort is reminiscent of the dive resorts found in the south pacific; complete with an air filling shed, SCUBA gear drying room and benches located next to the boat launch to setup and don equipment. Day use divers can pay a small fee to use the amenities. 

The dive site is quite diverse including a couple small wrecks, tire reef, eel grass beds, and a man made platform at 95 feet used mainly for advanced SCUBA classes. Entering the water is easy and straight forward, SCUBA divers can walk down the sloping boat ramp straight into the water. For those feeling a little more adventurous you can do a giant stride entry off the end of the dock (a roughly 15 foot jump).

Once in the water you will notice that the entire area is equipped with a gradually slopping bottom, following the slope makes it easier to maintain depth and buoyancy as well as navigate to the different attractions.  

The area has many man placed reefs and structures for divers enjoyment. Located between 15 and 30 feet a manmade "tire reef" can be found at the base of the boat dock. In the 40 to 50 foot range further east of the boat dock is the "appliance reef". This is a large area of sunken home appliances that are now home to many fish, lobster and sun stars.  

The site also has multiple small wrecks and a "deep dive" platform. Two of the smaller wrecks are locates north and south of the boat dock between 20 and 40 feet of sea water. These are both great spots to find lobster, clams, oysters, and shrimp. There are also two "deep wrecks" the largest of the two is located east of the "appliance reef" in 70 fsw while the other is next to the swim platform between 70 and 80 fsw. For those that are certified to go below 65 feet, the deep wreck is also the primary home of a large female octopus.
