Ski in Finnish Lapland at Oy Levi Ski Resort

If you're looking for a completely unique skiing experience combined with a different kind of adventure holiday, a skiing trip in Lapland might be your next destination.

After a few bad winters in the Alps, we decided to look for somewhere that we knew would have snow, so we decided to head up north. Way up north!

Levi is a ski resort in Finnish Lapland, famous for hosting the first race of the FIS Alpine Skiing World Cup every winter season.

Getting to Levi, despite how far away it is from everything, is actually really easy. Kittilä airport is just a short bus transfer away, with multiple connecting flights from Helsinki as well as a number of direct flights from other major European airports in the main winter season.

The town feels different to a ski resort in the Alps. It's much quieter, although there are still plenty of restaurants and bars to visit after a day on the slopes. But instead of heading to loud apres ski bars, it seems people here prefer to head to the sauna and wind down in a much more relaxing fashion instead.

The skiing isn't as challenging as skiing in the Alps. But that's to be expected when you don't really have any mountains, just a few large hills. But there's something quite magical about skiing amongst frozen trees and seeing frozen lakes and flat landscapes spread for miles out below you. And the golden glow of the winter sun is just incredible.

One thing you will notice, however, is the cold. It's incredibly cold, especially when you're skiing. You'll really feel it in your hands, feet and your face. So be prepared to go in for lots of hot chocolate breaks!
