Sombrero Reef is the largest and most magnificent reef in the Middle Keys. Perfect for divers or snorkelers of all levels. As soon as you descend schools of tropical fish and breathtaking coral formations can be seen.
Sombrero Reef is a coral reef 8 miles offshore from Key Colony Beach. Launch your private boat from the free 33rd Street Public Boat Ramp or book a catamaran tour from Marathon. Tie your boat off on one of the 11 mooring buoys on the South side of the 142 foot Sombrero Key Lighthouse. Get your waterproof camera ready to snap pictures of colorful tropical fish, sea turtles, nurse sharks, and various coral formations in crystal clear waters. The depth ranges from 5-35 feet and is perfect for divers of all levels and snorkelers too. The reef is a Sanctuary Preservation Area and is strictly regulated. Fishing and Lobstering are strictly prohibited in the area.
