Soak in the views along Skyline Drive
Homer, Alaska
Description
Added by Natalie F
Scenic drive with views of Homer and The Spit!
This is an easy drive with nice views. On a clear day you can see across Kachemak Bay, showing off glaciers, mountains and Mount Augustine Volcano, a stratovolcano.
Start at either West Hill Rd. or East Hill Rd. Then turn left or right onto Skyline Dr.
Other recommendations in the area:
- We had a nice dinner at the Little Mermaid. Huge menu, but tiny restaurant, get a reservation.
- Two sisters Bakery: adorable coffee shop with tasty food.
- Be sure to spend some time on The Spit!

Camp and Kayak at Holgate Glacier's Beach
There are many options to go about your adventure in Kenai Fjords National Park. Once you've finally decided on this spot, you'll be glad you chose it!
First step on how to get here is by making a reservation with a company to get out there. Most people start from Seward or Homer, as it's the closest send off to the Aialik Bay. You can kayak, fly, or use a water taxi/chartered boat; those are t...
Kayak in Pedersen Lagoon
Hikers are used to being confined to hiking trails most of the time. Kayakers ... not so much. How you get to Pedersen Glacier is the part that requires the most planning. Chances are very good that you'll be in the town of Seward, Alaska, and will arrange for either a water taxi or a guided paddle. If you're going with a guided paddle, your guide will most likely tell you what you're doing. For...
Explore Kenai Fjords National Park
None of Alaska’s eight national parks are easy to get to, but Kenai Fjords National Park is one of only three national parks in the state that can be accessed (partly) by road. It’s also the closest national park to Anchorage, which makes this an easier jaunt from the capital. While this park is the smallest of Alaska’s parks, it’s still the size of Yosemite National Park in California, so ther...
Kayak Aialik Glacier
If you're visiting Alaska, you're probably there to see glaciers, and Aialik Glacier is worth the money and time to see. Imagine a towering 1.5 mile wide glacier surrounded by rugged peaks and a thick green forest rising from the blue water. The chance to spot whales, puffins, sea lions, porpoises, eagles, and more. Large and small icebergs floating by your kayak and the thundering sound of mor...
Hike Skilak Lookout
This was my very first afternoon in Alaska. By myself just meandering around the state by car with a map in my lap. Alaska - what a limitless place of adventure. For those who end up following me, I have a things for places with bodies of water surrounded by towering peaks - so off I was to find something secluded. On the way I stumbled into some rather interesting folks, one of which joined me...
Hike Exit Glacier
It's hard to fathom how massive some Alaskan glaciers can be. But spend a day hiking along one and you'll start to get an idea of how much ice there is in Alaska. The Exit Glacier is a small tongue of glacier from the Harding Ice Field that comes down to almost sea level.Drive the Exit Glacier Road just North of Seward to the Exit Glacier Nature Center in Kenai Fjords National Park. There are e...
