Stargaze at Fort Griffin
Albany, Texas
Description
Added by Korey Taylor
Witness absolutely breathtaking night skies with a guided event inside the historic site. This is the second best place to view the Milky Way in all of Texas, just behind Big Bend National Park.
Witness the Milky Way in all of it's glory at Fort Griffin State Historic Site. The site offers a monthly Star & Skies of Texas viewing party and this is the only way inside of the Historic Site at night. The event itself lasts about 2-3 hours but they allow individuals to stay in the park as long as they want. This is the perfect opportunity to get unique shots utilizing the fort buildings as a foreground.
If you don't want to wait for the viewing party, you can always stay at the Fort Griffin Campground and explore the area around it to get shots. No matter where you are, if you're around the site or the nearby town of Albany, you'll be able to get clear shots of the night sky.

Reviews
The trails are very underwhelming, this venue is all about taking in the sky at night. Make sure you go when it's clear and the moon is as close to a new moon as possible.

My family went to the star party and it was really cool! There were several telescopes set up and we got to see the moon up really close as well as seeing Mars and Saturn. It was fun to see the stars appear in front of our eyes as the sun went down. We took our cameras and got some great pictures of the Milky Way! We will definitely go back sometime!
