Description

Added by Victoria Boop

A 1-2 day trip to the summits of Pinnacle Mountain and Sassafras Mountain, the two highest points in South Carolina.

Pinnacle Trail begins by the Nature Center in Table Rock State Park. Keep left at the first three splits in the trail. You will make some creek crossings, gain elevation through the forest, and pass by Mills Creek Falls (25 ft).

At Bald Rock Overlook, you can catch some nice views of Table Rock Mountain. When you reach the junction with Foothills Trail, turn left to follow the white blazes. This will lead you up Pinnacle Mountain.

If you are overnighting, there is an old stone farmhouse where many choose to set up camp (35.051483, -82.769135). From there it is 4.4 miles roundtrip to reach the Sassafras Mountain summit.

Reviews

Hiked this summit from Chimney Top Gap. It was a 5 mile round trip hike from where we parked to the summit. The summit offers beautiful views all around; grassy rolling hills immediately nearby and taller mountains farther off in the distance.
