My first time backpacking in Crater Lake National Park. It was one of the hardest trek I have done. To add that it was snowing and cold. You have to enter the park and then go to the park ranger to get a permit to park your vehicle . The permit is free. We hiked about 2 miles to the meadow and posted up. The meadow had a slant so be cautious about setting up your tent. I set up my tent and got everything situated and then tried to go to sun notch trail. We were pretty exhausted and missed it. I don’t suggest following all trails to find Sun notch trail as there are no signs. I would suggest to download the google offline map as that is more accurate. We retried to go to sun notch trail to see the phantoms shipwreck. It was so beautiful and nobody in site. Bring a snack, electrolytes, and something warm to much or heat up . I am sure it is much easier when there is no snow but the view in the snow was so much crisper and rewarding. My photos does no justice. I would suggest try backpacking it in the snow and always check weather condition because we saw some major rock slides .
