Description
Added by Tiffany Young
An incredible beach for beginner surfers in a perfect surf town!
Raglan is a small beach town in the North Island just two hours south of Auckland and less than an hour west from Hamilton. Set on the beautiful west coast, get ready for the most relaxed vibes.
If you're looking for the idea beginner surf spot, less than 10 minute from town is an awesome black sand beach called Ngarunui Beach. Continuing on Wainui Rd, take a right onto the access road and follow the roundabout straight down to the carpark where there are public toilets and cold showers. There's plenty of parking, but this is the main beach in Raglan so you can imagine that it gets very busy in the summer.
From the carpark, gear up and make sure you have everything you need because you won't want to walk back up the hill. Earn the burn after a brilliant surf!
Not into surfing? No worries. This is a beautiful spot to just chill. Find yourself a lookout spot, or a picnic table, or a short bush walk and enjoy the beauty of this black sand beach.
RAGLAN TIPS:
- If you're a fan of fish n' chips, definitely hit up Jo's Takeaway by the holiday park and skate park!
- Raglan Surf Co is a shop that has a window for coffee. Do it and bring your own cup.
- After some waves, your body will appreciate some good stretching. Check out yoga at The Space Raglan (they provide mats and more.)
- Looking for bigger waves? Get back on the road coming from town and continues south. A little further down is Manu Bay.
