Surf the South Jetty, Oceanside Harbor
Oceanside, California
Description
Added by Josiah Roe
Consistent, ridable surf in one of SoCal's iconic surf towns.
The jetty's of Oceanside Harbor serve to protect and stabilize the mouth of the San Luis Rey River meaning the sand and subsequent breaks remain fairly consistent and sand bars last for quite some time. After heavy rains large sand bars will form making for decent waves. It is also a great place for beach running (so bring your swimrun shoes).
The best swells are mixed: big S-SW with a smaller W for breakup. Optimal tides and winds make for overheads and hollow corners and lots of space to spread out.
Best swell direction: S through WNW (180-285).
Best Wind: N through E winds or light and variable winds
Sea Floor: Sand
Best Season: Breaks year round but is best late Spring through late Fall.
Parking: There is free parking just east of the Harbor Village on the other side of the railroad tracks along with paid parking around the harbor.

Oceanside is always fun to visit. It's a consistent wave

Overall, surfing the South Jetty at Oceanside will give you consistent waves to get out on but I don't recommend it for someone just starting out. There are plenty of smaller, more solitary waves to learn on where you won't be surrounded by locals.
