Swim in Barton Springs Pool
Austin, Texas
Description
Added by Sarah Vaughn
Barton Springs Pool is a three acre hot weather paradise located within Zilker Park. With average water temperatures of 68-70 degrees, this spring-fed pool will give you that much needed break from the Texas heat.
Barton Springs Pool is a historical staple in the city of Austin. Located within Zilker Park, the location is easy to find and even has easy accessible parking. Now with that being said, it is recommended to arrive somewhat early in the day if you don't want to be resorted to fishing for a parking spot or waiting in long lines to enter the pool.
Once inside, take your time enjoying a nice relaxing day swimming in the chilly spring-fed waters sourced from the Edwards Aquifer. A grassy hill flanks the pool on both sides and has plenty of shady spots, thanks to the trees, to lay out towels and other belongings. Depths in the water vary from 0ft to 18ft in some parts. There is also a diving board located near the center of the pool which kids and the kids at heart will love.
The pool is also home to the endangered Barton Springs Salamander and is a protected habitat for this reason. Also available is an educational exhibit where visitors can learn about the history and biology of Barton Springs.
Admission to the pool has a small fee for Residents of Austin, and a slightly higher fee for Non-Residents. Check out the fees, hourly information, and prohibited items on Barton Springs website here: (https://austintexas.gov/department/barton-springs-pool)
Now that you've had a fun filled day at the pool, head over to Austin's own P.Terry's Burger Stand on Barton Springs Rd for some awesome post-swim grub.

Such a great place to go during the summer to relax/swim/people watch. The natural water makes for a refreshing, cleansing experience. Check the website for night swim dates!! It's always a good time.

One of the nicer springs in the Central Texas area! Water was really cold but Texas is hot so it worked out!

This was a must-do on our trip to Austin. My son & husband got in the water for a while, but I couldn't even stand to keep my feet in it. I think it's about 68 degrees year round. The surrounding Zilker Park is very nice, and the pool area itself is nice too. There's a giant hill opposite the entrance that many folks were relaxing & sunbathing on. Lots of kids at heart having fun on the diving board too!
