Red Mountain Park’s 14 miles of trails cover a wide variety of terrain and grade, and connect several historic mining sites and city overlooks, making this one of Birmingham’s best trail running spots. Run to Skyhy Tree House to take a quick break and enjoy the views from this unique overlook.
From the park entrance there are several ways to get to Skyhy Tree House, and the trail system allows for loops of varying distances and difficulty. There’s a large map about a quarter mile down the main trail from the park entrance, and paper trail maps are usually available at this sign. The trail system has numerous intersections so it’s a good idea to have a map if you aren’t already familiar with the trails (available online at http://redmountainpark.org/explore/trail-guide/). For a great 4.5 mile loop, use the following directions from the park entrance:
Straight towards BMRR South Trail (brown) and take a left. Right onto Smythe Trail (red). Left onto Ike Maston Trail (blue). Right onto Songo Trail (yellow). Right onto Redding-Ishkooda Trail (green). Skyhy Tree House will be on your left. From the overlook, left back onto Redding-Ishkooda Trail (green). Right onto TCI Connector (dark red). Right onto BMRR South Trail (brown). Left to head back to park entrance.
There is no entrance fee and parking is available along the street at the trailhead or directly across the street in a large gravel parking lot.

Nice little park and trail systems. Nothing fancy, but it has some neat overlooks and is well maintained. There's a nice little adventure park within that has zip lines and a high ropes course.

Red Mountain is awesome! Great Mountain biking trails that aren't too technical. Great place to walk your dog and explore a little!

Ran into very seldom other hikers and enjoyed a great view. Trails were a little rough, so would not bring kids. Maps provided were helpful and I had a lot of fun.
