Tube Down the Rio Celeste
Guatuso, Costa Rica
Description
Added by Crystal Sibson
The Rio Celeste is a beautiful brilliant blue river near Tenorio Volcano.
The Rio Celeste in northern Costa Rica is most notably known for the famous Rio Celeste Waterfall in Tenorio Volcano National Park. The river has a distinctive turquoise blue color that makes it a popular tourist destination. The best way to experience this river is by tubing down the river through several kilometers of dense rainforest jungle.
You are not allowed to swim in the river within the park boundaries but several tour companies in the area offer tubing adventures just outside of the national park. Depending on what tour company you choose, river access points, prices and length may vary. During my visit to the area I went through Rio Celeste Aventuras which has a parking lot and restaurant right next to the river and launch point. The float takes about 1.5-2 hours to go 3 kilometers to the exit point. There are several deep pools that you can stop to swim in or jump from the ledges.

Reviews
The float down the river was absolutely beautiful. I kept getting stuck on rocks in areas of low water. It took a lot of maneuvering to make it through the river. The jungle next to the river was very dense and lush.
