Visit the Bridgeport Covered Bridge
Penn Valley, California
Description
Added by Josh Currie
Visit the worlds longest wooden covered bridge!
The famed and picturesque Bridgeport Covered Bridge, spanning the width of the Yuba River, was originally built in 1862. It was an integral passage for a freight hauling route from San Fransisco to Nevada.
This historic site is now protected and is no longer able to be walked or driven through as of 2011 due to structural problems, but there is scheduled to be a restoration of the bridge in 2018.
Beyond admiring the bridge there is an old Shell Station, picnic areas, and a Visitors Center to learn more about the area and the Bridge. Also if the weather is nice, I would definitely recommend a dip in the river!

I needed to escape the fog smothering Sacramento and decided to take a day trip to see this. Was definitely worth the trip. While the bridge is unique and, well, a bridge, the hike back to Englebright Lake was fun and easy. I am looking forward to taking my kayak back to explore even more!

I grew up swimming near here. Lots of epic swimming holes up and down the Yuba River and this is a great starting spot.
