Walk among some of the tallest trees outside the Pacific Northwest. Explore an area that is not only the home to some incredible trees but also lots of wildlife (including bears).
The Ross Creek Cedar area is a really cool area in Northwest Montana that houses some monstrous Western Red Cedar Trees (some of which have a diameter of over 12 feet and over 500 years old!). The grove is one of the few in the area that still has some really beautiful old-growth forest. Due to its beauty and location this roughly 100-acre grove was spared from the logging that has taken most of the other large trees in the area.
There is a ~1-mile loop nature trail though the grove that provides easy access as well as useful information. Plan on spending a lot of time looking up along the trail....There is a trail that goes much higher up the ross creek valley, which is much more difficult but depending on conditions it can be closed so check with the local forest service office prior to hiking it.
The Ross Creek scenic area in addition to its scenic beauty is a great for wildlife and flora. Bears are a fairly common sight in the area so be aware during your visit.

Reviews
This is one of the most inspiring places I have seen! Lush and green with ancient towering trees, the mood here is peaceful and serene. Take time to stop, sit, reflect, and soak in the wise energy emanating from these 100+ year old trees. You will leave feeling amazed and refreshed!
