Escape the bustling city by heading to the 7 mile long Katy Trail that offers beautiful trees, rivers, and of course the Katy Trail Ice House. Perfect for any time of the day when you need your daily dose of nature in the concrete jungle.
The Katy Trail cuts through the busy downtown Dallas area and offers the perfect way to get away for a lunch break or afternoon walk. The trail runs from Mockingbird to Houston St and can be traveled in both directions. The best place for parking is at the North end off of Travis and Knox St where there is a designated parking lot specifically for the trail. There's a great park to stop off at near Snyders Union to rest beneath the trees or have a picnic. Don't forget to stop at the Katy Trail Ice House to grab a cold beer or some food!

Ok so it’s not a typical walk in the woods, but it’s a great resource for those of us who live nearby. I like that there are plenty of access points, so your walk is as long as you want it to be. Plus, it really is beautiful and gives a break from city life when you don’t have time to drive out somewhere and hike.

Yes, it's cement. But it is beautiful, well-shaded, there's plenty of people, and you can even rent bikes now (check out the VBikes app). They're decent one-speed and cost only $1/hour. There's also a cute feral cat colony that usually gets active in the afternoon/evening.

By Dallas standards The Katy Trail is pretty nice and it gets heavy traffic. This used to be a train track that was converted to a sidewalk. Granted it's a nice sidewalk but the fact that this is #1 on the list tells you everything you need to know about the green space in DFW. I run and walk the trail all the time and it really makes me miss Nashville.
