Watch the Sunset on the Southern Banks of Lake Pontchartrain
Metairie, Louisiana
Description
Added by Brandon Hebert
With the beautiful sunsets, levee, rocks, easy access from the shell beach into the water and the bike/running path, the levee that borders the south shore of Lake Pontchartrain is a popular spot for many locals during the Spring through Fall months.
Just a fifteen minutes from the hustle and bustle of New Orleans, one can find possibly the best spot in all of the New Orleans Metro Area, "The Levee", as locals call it. At the listed location, there is a shell beach where you can enter on your SUP, Kayak, or Canoe. This location is also a popular spot for fishing.
You can literally go anywhere on the levee to catch a perfect sunset. If you would rather not sit in the grass, along the walking, running, and biking trail there are benches and tables set up for use. At the end of Bonnabel Boulevard and Williams Boulevard, there is a pier, a dock, and a dog park where many people go as well.
As far as parking goes, the levee is the backyard for many houses so parking can be done in and around the neighborhoods. The listed location has a little strip for parking and Bonnabel and Williams has a nice parking lot because of the docks.
