Weather Forecasts Predict Major Flooding in Yosemite Valley This Weekend
When it rains, it pours.
In 1997, the Merced River flooded Yosemite Valley and caused the longest closure in the park's 107 years.
"National Park Service officials said preliminary estimates indicated that the damage to buildings, roads, sewers, power lines and bridges in the park could reach more than $178 million."Current forecasts predict a storm of similar stature will hit Yosemite in the next few days. The National Park Service is considering closing the park, so if you have plans for a winter adventure in Yosemite this weekend, you may want to reconsider.
If you're planning to drive anywhere in Northern California in the coming week, check for weather updates and stay safe.
