Whiskey Blending at Mammoth Distillery
Traverse City, Michigan
Description

Educational, exciting and intriguing. You'll leave with a bottle of your own blended bourbon!
Now, this is something you probably haven't tried yet. Whiskey blending! The experience with Mammoth Distillery was stimulating, educating and so much fun!
Technically we were actually blending bourbon - which we learned all bourbon is whiskey but not all whiskey is bourbon.
You’ll sit down with a group of five to six people, in front of you will be three rows of six glasses. The first and second rows house the same type of bourbon in each column, with the last row being open glasses for you to create different blends. The first part of the blending, you taste each of the six glasses in the first row - annotating the different flavor profiles and where you feel them in your mouth. During the process, you also add water to each glass to help enhance the flavor for your annotating. After you have assessed your different bourbons, you begin by using a syringe to pull from the second row of bourbon to create blends in the third row of empty glasses.
A truly incredible experience, the staff was highly knowledgeable, not to mention they provided snacks before hand. With the pricing at $125 for the bourbon blending and bottle to take home - it was worth every penny. Even if you’re not in the mood to blend bourbon - the space at their Traverse City location is a delight to be in for a refreshing cocktail, be sure to check their events schedule, for they do offer live music!
