Description

Added by Allison Swanson

Chikamin Peak is quite a trek with some overgrown trail in places, but littered with beautiful lakes and flora along the way. A stunning view from the peak when the weather is clear.

This is a S5 T4 scramble that involves some routefinding past the alpine lakes. We did this as a day trip and we were out and back in about 12 hours.

There are multiple routes to get to Chikamin, one from the PCT, which is 24 miles RT and the other is from the Mineral Creek Trailhead (47.4176, -121.2373), which is 18 miles RT.

There is gradual, but plentiful elevation gain for about the first 7 miles with overgrown trail in some spots, so use your trekking poles if you have them.

Once at the alpine lakes, take in the views and look to your map to see the best route to the summit. You may need to do some routefinding as there is no trail near the top. There is a craggy summit which requires some T3/T4 maneuvering to get over the horn.

It rained the entire duration of the scramble, so the summit was sogged out. The view is supposed to be spectacular when clear. Summit coordinates: - 47.47533°N / 121.31086°W
