Description

Hidden beneath the hills of Western Ohio, Ohio Caverns yearns to be explored.

Ohio Caverns is a locally owned private establishment with guided tours through the cave system that lies beneath the rolling farmland of Central Western Ohio. The caves were formed by the dissolution of the Devonian limestone bedrock below, giving way to some of the most phenomenal cave features in the state, including the Crystal King, a roughly 400 lb stalactite that is the largest in Ohio.

All tours begin in the gift shop located above the cave entrance, and can take anywhere from 25 minutes to an hour. The longest tour, the Natural Wonders Tour, is definitely the one to take while there, as it shows all the cave has to offer in terms of its its stunning beauty over the hour-long one mile tour.

The Caverns are an excellent spot to try your hand at low light cave photography, but tripods are not allowed so be prepared to increase the ISO to get well exposed photos.

I did not have high expectations going into it, so naturally they were blown away as I walked (and often crouched) through the cavern. I went on the natural wonders tour which was informative, albeit quite exaggerated at times. Overall it was a neat experience for the area. I wouldn't go out of my way to return, but I would encourage others to visit!

I love exploring these caves! Beautiful, classic formations. Can get tight and dark in places, could feel scary for young children, but the tour guides do an awesome job of making it fun for kids! The grounds themselves are beautiful; I even ran a cross country course here that was tough but so pretty! The gift shop is awesome too. Perfect and unique family adventure!

A great experience for the whole family. The tour was engaging and the guide was hilarious. Keep in mind, if you have smaller children, who may not be able to keep up, the cavern gets pretty tight. Our Kelty carrier barely made it through some sections.

As a native of Dayton, Ohio, I love visiting the caverns! The formations are beautiful. Definitely worth the visit!
