Description

Purgatory Chasm is as geologically intriguing as it sounds--a shady quarter mile of rift between tall granite walls attracts hikers and climbers alike.
For this 1-mile hike, you can park at the Purgatory Chasm Visitor Center. From there hit the trail and explore the unusual gap between the tall granite walls, which might be adorned with climbers. Great for all ages and dogs are welcome too. The trail is open March-November.

Reviews
Absolutely love this area. Each season brings unique aspects to explore. I had a great time in winter when there was a lot of ice formations; just be careful as it can be slippery on the trail.

Challenging if wanted, but also moderately low impact for those who do not want a strenuous hike.

The chasm itself is a fairly short hike but there are some longer loop trails around the park. Nice playground for the kids and bathrooms.

My group and I loved this spot! Once you get past the tourists in the beginning, you'll have plenty of space to climb and explore. Wear shoes with good grip. Definitely worth checking out!

Purgatory Chasm is one of those places that is great anytime, but in the fall, this is one of the best spots to see the foliage and enjoy a day hike.
