Description

The Snake River Overlook has easy access to the viewing area. There are scenic views of the Snake River and the Grand Teton, especially at sunrise and sunset.

The Snake River Overlook is a well-known stopping point in Grand Teton National Park and for good reason. You get a spectacular view of the Snake River leading up to the Grand Teton. Many people have seen Ansel Adam's famous black and white photo captured here.

Visiting the overlook is great at all times of the day, but it is spectacular at both sunrise and sunset. The sun sets behind the Grand Teton, and it appears unreal because of the amazing display of colors. Sometimes you get lucky and have beautiful pink clouds behind the Grand Teton at sunrise.

The moon also descends behind the Tetons, so if you're going to catch the sunrise, show up early to capture the moonlight above and behind the Tetons. Lastly, fall is a great time to come here, as there are many deciduous trees along the Snake River below the Grand Teton.

There are some little trails behind the overlook that will give you some better angles of the Snake River, so if you're adventurous, check them out. You will get much better views of the Snake River in between the pine trees.

We parked here and took one of the trails down to the river. There are signs warning about bears in the area, so we tried to be loud and didn't travel too far beyond where the trail meets the river. This is such a gorgeous spot. The water was frigid in July!

Put on your hat and channel your inner Ansel Adams. Excellent place to shoot some photography, watch a sunset, or just relax. It can get a little busy at times, but the view is outstanding. I'm not much of a believer in the subjective phrases of "good" and "bad" based in theological terms, but you are committing a mortal sin by not stopping at this spot if you're making your way through the Grand Tetons.

Perfect for everyone but I especially appreciate that those that can't walk a lot and looking for an amazing view can just pull up and enjoy.

Definitely a must stop overlook. One of my favorite overlooks in the Tetons. The trees have grown up so you can't see the river bend, but gorgeous nonetheless.

The Snake River Overlook is a must see spot when visiting the park. Easy access to one of the most beautiful scenes you will ever witness!

This is a popular spot being one of Ansel Adam's famous photograph locations. Even in -20˚F during the winter I've shared the overlook with other photographers. If you're looking to replicated Ansel's shot, keep in mind the trees have gotten much taller.
